It starts from the edge of the palm between thumb and first figure from the side-edge of the percussion, between Mars and Jupiter; moves straight or slightly curved for about an inch (2.54 cm.), curves and moves between Mars & Rahu, Venus & Rahu, Venus & Ketu and Venus & Moon, Venus & Rascette-Bracelet.
जीवन रेखा का उदय अँगूठे के नीचे, निम्न मङ्गल के ऊपर और बृहस्पति के नीचे होता है। लगभग एक इंच-2.54 सेमी चलकर यह गोलाई लेते हुए मङ्गल और गुक्र को घेरते हुए, मणिबंध तक जाकर, अँगूठे को पूरा घेरते हुए कलाई के ऊपरी छोर पर पहुँच जाती है। यह राहु, चंद्र को बाईं और रखकर आगे बढ़ती है।
यह स्वास्थ्य, ऊर्जा, कार्य क्षमता, बीमारियों को दर्शाती है। तरक्की, जातक द्वारा दूसरों की सहायता, आयु-मृत्यु, दुर्घटनाओं, लम्बी यात्राएँ आदि का वर्णन करती है। जातक की अधिकतम आयु को 105-120 वर्ष तक दर्शाती है। भाग्य रेखा, हृदय रेखा और मंगल रेखाएं इसकी सहायक रेखाएँ हैं।
A faded line, islanded line, ladder shaped line, line with cuts, line with breaks or moles describe health conditions at that juncture of age only, temporarily arresting its powers. A line running close to it, not only, repairs the defects, gives extra power-strength as well.धूमिल, द्वीप युक्त, सीढ़ी नुमा, कटी-फ़टी, तिल युक्त जीवन रेखा उस वक्त की स्वास्थ्य की स्थिति का ब्यान करती है और केवल उसी समय के लिये जातक शक्ति क्षीण-बाधित होती है। एक अन्य रेखा-समान्तर रेखा, मंगल रेखा न केवल इसके अवगुणों को दूर करती है, जातक को शक्ति-सामर्थ और आत्मविश्वास भी प्रदान करती है।
LONGEVITY :: Prediction of Longevity, needs the help of the Line of Head and Heart as well. People without Line of Head & Heart Line are more or less simians. The length of a person's Life Line is not tied to the length of a person's Life Line only. If the Line of Head is stronger than the Life Line; it shows a person who is more active mentally as compared to his physical activity. Absence of Life Line on palm is very rare indicating that the life of the possessor is extremely precarious and death might occur at any moment.

आयु-उम्र की गणना :: उम्र की गणना न केवल जीवन रेखा से अपितु मस्तिष्क और हृदय रेखा से भी करनी चाहिये। इसके लिये जातक के दोनों हाथों का परीक्षण आवश्यक है। जिन लोगों के हाथ में मस्तिष्क रेखा और हृदय रेखा का अभाव होता है, वे लगभग बन्दरों-लंगूरों के समान होते हैं। जीवन रेखा की अनुपस्थिति का अर्थ है कि जातक का प्राणान्त कभी भी हो सकता है। मस्तिष्क रेखा यदि जीवन रेखा से अधिक मजबूत है तो जातक मानसिक रूप से ज्यादा चुस्त-दुरुस्त होगा।

जीवन रेखा पूरे शुक्र पर्वत को घेरे :- जातक की आयु 90 वर्ष से अधिक हो सकती है। जीवन रेखा का लम्बा होना, लम्बी आयु सुनिश्चित नहीं करता। उसकी मस्तिष्क रेखा और हृदय रेखा को भी स्पष्ट और दोष रहित होना चाहिये। हाथ में अन्य स्थानों पर दुर्घटनाओं को भी देखना आवश्यक है। मध्य आयु प्यार-स्नेह, शारीरिक सम्बन्धों और बाद की आयु आध्यात्मिकता का वर्णन करती है।
(2). LARGE VENUS :- Generally, it indicates long life, vitality and strong constitution, warmth, good health, high potency-sexuality level, attractive, excels in arts-crafts, likes high standards of living and worldly possessions. Happiness through parents-family descends upon him.
विशाल शुक्र :- यह लम्बी आयु, शक्ति सामर्थ, शारीरिक संरचना-स्वास्थ्य, सन्तानोत्तपत्ति की क्षमता, शारीरिक आकृषण, सम्बन्धों में घनिष्ठा, कला क्षेत्र में निपुणता, सांसारिक उपलब्धियों को भी प्रदर्शित करता है। उच्च सामाजिक स्तर, माता-पिता से खुशियाँ जातक को स्वतः प्राप्त होती है।

One is ardent, full of desire and warmth, passionate, generous, sympathetic and attracts others. He is attractive-handsome, marries early and enjoys happy union.
जातक उत्कृष्ट, जोशीला, उत्साही होगा। उसमें आकांक्षों और प्रगाढ़ सम्बंधों की गर्मी-उत्साह भी होगा। उदार, आवेशपूर्ण, तीव्र, कामुक, अकृषक तो होगा ही उसकी शादी भी उचित उम्र में हो जायेगी। उसका वैवाहिक जीवन खुशियों से भरा होगा।
SHORT VENUS :- The line runs close to the thumb. The subject may be cold, unsympathetic, lack sexual desire and attraction for or to the opposite sex. One may not have children. But it do not indication sterility. It diminished probability of long life. One may lack good health, vigour, desire and warmth. Coldness may lead to lack of necessary emotion.

जीवन रेखा का उदय मङ्गल से :- लम्बी उम्र, विकसित शारीरिक क्षमता और कार्य करने की शक्ति, मगर बबासीर और खून में ख़राबी हो सकती है।
ऐसी जीवन रेखा जो मङ्गल पर नुदित हो, कटी-फटी न हो, द्वीप रहित हो, लहरदार न हो, पूरे शुक्र को घेरे, मणिबन्ध तक पहुँचे; बहुत अच्छी होती है।

जीवन रेखा का उदय बृहस्पति से :- महत्वाकांक्षी, नाम, समद्धि और सफ़लता की इच्छा, पैदाइशी नेता, अनेकों कौशल और खूबियों, उच्च पदासीन, समाज में इज्जत-मान सम्मान। वही रेखा जब बृहस्पति की अँगुली के जनदीक शुरू होगी तो जातक को तानाशाह, अभिमानी, क्रूर बनायेगी। जातक के खून में विकार, बबासीर और खानदानी विकृतियाँ विरासत में मिलेंगी।
Jupiterian :- Ambitious for learning and high position.
विकसित बृहस्पति :- महत्वकांक्षी, अध्ययन की इच्छा, उच्च पद की कामना।
Saturnian :- Ambition for occult powers, developing medicines science, mining, farming.
विकसित शनि :- गुप्त शक्तियों की आकांक्षा, चिकित्सा क्षेत्र में विकास की सम्भावना, खान-उत्खनन, कृषि कार्य।
Apollonian :- Ambition, crave for success fame in public, as an actor, artist, administrator.

जीवन रेखा शुरू में चिमटा-द्विमुखी :- सिद्धान्तवादी, धार्मिक, पत्नी-पति के प्रति वफ़ादारी।
(4.4.2). Line of Life beginning in a fork, with an exaggerated mount of Jupiter :- Indecision, fantasy-imagination with extravagance.

SHAPE OF LIFE LINE जीवन रेखा की बनावट ::
(7). Ladder like Line :- Health is not reliable, delicate constitution. Low vitality, weak unstable and intermittent health.
सीढ़ी नुमा जीवन रेखा :- स्वास्थ्य सही नहीं रहेगा (बुध रेखा को भी देखें), कमजोर शरीर, पौरुष की कमी।

द्वीप युक्त जीवन रेखा :- बीमारी और स्वास्थ्य में कमी-ह्रास।
(17). RISING OFFSHOOTS :: Increased power, gains and success. These lines have been read as Luck Lines as well. These are the signs of increased power, gains and successes & make the bearer's hard working rich and healthy. Subject gets job, promotion, financial up gradation.

जीवन रेखा की निम्न व्रती शाखायें ::

SQUARE (It’s a four sided closed figure and is a mark of preservation, where ever found on the Life Line) :- Protection from accidents, death or bad health. It protects from illness-death-accident at that age. But, if it is found at the termination of the life line, on both the hands, it will reflect death due to illness-accidentally. On one hand, it will reflect pain equal to death. It helps in rapid recovery from illness as well. Fragments of Life Line enclosed inside a square shows recovery from serious illness.
An independent square on Venus, lying close to the Life Line, indicates imprisonment or isolation from the society for the protection of the bearer. A cross inside a square will show a great danger coming without harming the possessor.
STAR :: Sudden death. Check the other signs over Saturn & Luna and confirm from the left hand. It represents a fatality, an accident or even death. On an upward branch of Life Line, it will show pain comparable-equivalent to death.

GRID :: (1). It’s a negative sign irrespective of its location. If it is found over the Life Line and the Venus & Mars are in conjecture, it indicates cancer.(2). Present over lower Luna near the rascette by the right side of the Life Line, it indicates separation from parents, death of father at once-immediately after birth and loss of ancestral property. The impact of this sign is visible in the 9th house of the horoscope clearly.
(3). The grid present over the Jupiter + Mars region, near the Life Line, indicates serious disease of the private parts, venereal diseases and cancer, some times. Presence of Girdle of Venus will confirm this.

जीवन रेखा के गहरे होने से व्यक्ति निर्धन होता है। गहरी होने के साथ लाल रंग की हो तो क्रोधी होता है। काले रंग की हो तो कई रहस्य छुपाकर रखता है और टेढ़ी-मेढी हो तो जातक कभी भी कुछ भी करने वाला होता है। आयु का निर्णय लेते वक्त परीक्षक को हृदय और मस्तिष्क रेखा का अध्ययन भी करना चाहिये। हाथ में शनि के ऊपर काटे का निशान भी ध्यान में रखना चाहिये। यदि किसी व्यक्ति के हाथ में जीवन रेखा बलवती नहीं है; मगर मस्तिष्क रेखा मजबूत है, तो उसे शरीर से ज्यादा दिमाँग-बुद्धि से काम लेने वाला समझना चाहिये। जीवन रेखा की अनुपस्थिति, एक असामान्य घटना है और ऐसे व्यक्ति का देहान्त कभी भी हो सकता है।(1). लंबी, गहरी, पतली और साफ जीवन रेखा शुभ होती है। जीवन रेखा पर क्रॉस का चिह्न अशुभ होता है। यदि जीवन रेखा शुभ है तो व्यक्ति की आयु लंबी होती है और उसका स्वास्थ्य भी अच्छा रहता है। उसकी उन्नति अपेक्षाकृत अधिक होती है तथा उच्च पद प्राप्ति की सम्भावनाएँ अधिक होती हैं।
(2). यदि मस्तिष्क रेखा (मस्तिष्क रेखा और जीवन रेखा लगभग एक ही स्थान से प्रारंभ होती है) और जीवन रेखा के मध्य थोड़ा अंतर हो तो व्यक्ति स्वतंत्र विचारों वाला होता है।
(3). यदि मस्तिष्क रेखा और जीवन रेखा के मध्य अधिक अंतर हो तो व्यक्ति बिना सोच-विचार के कार्य करने वाला होता है।
(4). यदि दोनों हाथों में जीवन रेखा टूटी हुई हो, तो व्यक्ति को असमय मृत्यु समान कष्टों का सामना करना पड़ सकता है। यदि एक हाथ में जीवन रेखा टूटी हो और दूसरे हाथ में यह रेखा ठीक हो, तो यह किसी गंभीर बीमारी की ओर इशारा करती है।
(5). यदि किसी व्यक्ति के हाथ में जीवन रेखा श्रृंखलाकार या अलग-अलग टुकड़ों से जुड़ी हुई या बनी हुई हो तो व्यक्ति निर्बल हो सकता है। ऐसे लोग स्वास्थ्य की दृष्टि से भी परेशानियों का सामना करते हैं। ऐसा विशेषत: तब होता है, जब हाथ बहुत कोमल हो। जब जीवन रेखा के दोष दूर हो जाते हैं तो व्यक्ति का जीवन सामान्य हो जाता है।
(6). यदि जीवन रेखा से कोई शाखा गुरु पर्वत क्षेत्र की ओर उठती दिखाई दे या गुरु पर्वत में जा मिले तो इसका अर्थ यह समझना चाहिए कि व्यक्ति को कोई बड़ा पद या व्यापार-व्यवसाय में तरक्की प्राप्त होती है।
(7). यदि जीवन रेखा से कोई शाखा शनि पर्वत क्षेत्र की ओर उठकर भाग्य रेखा के साथ-साथ चलती दिखाई दे तो इसका अर्थ यह होता है कि व्यक्ति को धन-संपत्ति का लाभ मिल सकता है। ऐसी रेखा के प्रभाव से व्यक्ति को सुख-सुविधाओं की वस्तुएं भी प्राप्त हो सकती हैं।
(8). यदि जीवन रेखा, हृदय रेखा और मस्तिष्क रेखा तीनों प्रारंभ में मिली हुई हो तो व्यक्ति भाग्यहीन, दुर्बल और परेशानियों से घिरा होता है।
(9). यदि जीवन रेखा को कई छोटी-छोटी रेखाएं काटती हुई नीचे की ओर जाती हो तो ये रेखाएं व्यक्ति के जीवन में परेशानियों को दर्शाती हैं। यदि इस तरह की रेखाएं ऊपर की ओर जा रही हों तो व्यक्ति को सफलता प्राप्त होती है।
(10). यदि जीवन रेखा गुरु पर्वत से प्रारंभ हुई हो तो व्यक्ति अति महत्वाकांक्षी होता है। ये लोग अपनी आकांक्षाओं को पूरा करने के लिए किसी भी हद तक जा सकते हैं।
(11). जब टूटी हुई जीवन रेखा शुक्र पर्वत के भीतर की ओर मुड़ती दिखाई देती है तो यह अशुभ लक्षण होता है। ऐसी जीवन रेखा बताती है कि व्यक्ति को किसी बड़े संकट का सामना करना पड़ सकता है।(12). यदि जीवन रेखा अंत में दो भागों में विभाजित हो गई हो तो व्यक्ति की मृत्यु जन्म स्थान से दूर होती है।
(13). जीवन रेखा पर वर्ग का चिह्न हो तो यह व्यक्ति के जीवन की रक्षा करता है। आयु के संबंध में जीवन रेखा के साथ ही स्वास्थ्य रेखा, हृदय रेखा, मस्तिष्क रेखा और अन्य छोटी-छोटी रेखाओं पर भी विचार किया जाना चाहिए।
(14). यदि दोनों हाथों में जीवन रेखा बहुत छोटी हो तो वह व्यक्ति अल्पायु हो सकता है। जीवन रेखा जहां-जहां श्रृंखलाकार होगी, उस आयु में व्यक्ति किसी बीमारी से ग्रसित हो सकता है।
(15). यदि किसी व्यक्ति के हाथ में जीवन रेखा चंद्र पर्वत तक चली जाए तो व्यक्ति का जीवन अस्थिर हो सकता है। अंगूठे के नीचे वाले भाग को शुक्र पर्वत कहते हैं और शुक्र के दूसरी ओर चंद्र पर्वत स्थित होता है। यदि इस प्रकार की जीवन रेखा कोमल हाथों में हो और मस्तिष्क रेखा भी ढलान लिए हुए हो, तो व्यक्ति का स्वभाव स्थिर होता है। इस प्रकार के लोग साहस भरे और उत्तेजना से पूर्ण कार्य करना चाहते हैं।
हस्तरेखा में दोनों हाथों की बनावट और रेखाओं का पूरा अध्ययन करना बहुत जरूरी है। फल हथेली की अन्य स्थितियों से बदल भी सकते हैं। इसी वजह से किसी व्यक्ति के बारे में सटीक भविष्यवाणी करना हो तो दोनों हथेलियों का अध्ययन करना चाहिए।
जाली :: (1). जीवन रेखा पर यह चिन्ह शुक्र और मंगल की युति के साथ कैंसर की बीमारी को प्रदर्शित करता है।
(2). जीवन रेखा के दाईं ओर, निम्न चंद्र पर,मणिबंध के नजदीक, स्थित यह चिन्ह जन्म के तुरन्त पश्चात पिता की मृत्यु, पैतृक सम्पत्ति की हानि, माता-पिता से विछोह बताता है। इसका कुप्रभाव जन्म कुण्डली के नवम भाव से स्पष्ट देखा जा सकता है।
(3). जीवन रेखा के नज़दीक, वृहस्पति और निम्न मंगल के क्षेत्र में उपस्थित यह जाली, जातक को गंभीर गुप्त रोग, गुप्तांग के रोग और कभी-कभी कैंसर की संभावना भी व्यक्त करती है। शुक्र मुद्रिका होने पर यह निश्चित ही होगा।
(4). जीवन रेखा पर उपस्थित 25-30 वर्ष की आयु में यह जाली अशुभ होती है। यह जन्म कुण्डली में दशम स्थान को प्रभावित करती है।
जीवन रेखा में बड़ा द्वीप, अत्यधिक विकसित चंद्र :: जातक की आँतों में तपेदिक या जलोदर जैसी बीमारी हो सकती है। वह विशेष कामुक होगा। अति कामुक होने के कारण उसके यौन अंगों में शिथिलता आ जाती है। उसे शीघ्र पतन, स्वप्न दोष, स्वेत प्रदर (स्त्रियों में), दौरे पड़ना, आँतों में फोड़े-जख्म जैसे रोग हो सकते हैं। अतः जातक को यौन चिन्तन न करके ब्रह्मचर्य का पालन करना चाहिये।
CASE STUDY :: The left hand of the woman shows faded Life Line between 40-50 years and still she survived, since it was supported by Luck Line travelling far away over Luna. Her Line of Heart shows that she will live for 63-70 years. Her husband's hand do not show widower-hood. During the period in which the Life Line disappeared, she faced acute illness and was medicated intensively. Her left hand shows 2 parallel Luck Lines covering a black mole which shows that she may suffer due to (food) poisoning, but she will survive yet again.
Her husbands right hand has an excellent Sun Line starting from 50 but in the absence of Luck Line much materialistic success is not predicted, specially when he do not pay heed to the advice given to him. यह रेखा सामन्यतया जातक के द्वारा जीवन भर किये गये संघर्ष का सुपरिणाम है। स्पष्ट, पूरी, बगैर कटी-फ़टी भाग्य और सूर्य रेखाएँ सोने में सुहागे का काम करती हैं।
अगर यह रेखा जातक के उलटे हाथ में है तो यह उसके पिता द्वारा की गई अथक मेहनत को दर्शाती है और इसका प्रभाव उसकी सन्तति पर भी होता है।
यद्यपि यह रेखा केतु क्षेत्र में है, तथापि केतु का इससे कोई सम्बन्ध नहीं है और ना ही प्रभाव।

(5). जीवन रेखा पर द्वीप और शनि पर नक्षत्र-तारा :- पैरों पर दुष्प्रभाव।
(6). जीवन रेखा पर द्वीप, मष्तिष्क रेखा और स्वास्थ्य रेखा की संधि पर नक्षत्र :- नपुंसकता। स्री के हाथ में होने पर सन्तानोत्तपत्ति-गर्भ धारण में परेशानी।
